Chill Out With Iced Coffee And Cold Brew For The Breakroom

Some like it hot, while others prefer their coffee on the rocks. We’re bringing cool back into the breakroom with iced coffee and cold brew faves perfect for a hot summer’s day or a mid-afternoon pick-me-up.

Cold Brew Versus Iced Coffee – What’s the Difference?

The main difference between cold brew and iced coffee is preparation. Cold brew coffee is coffee that’s been brewed using cold water rather than the traditional hot water. As a result, it must steep significantly longer (around 12-18 hours). It is then strained and chilled before serving.

Iced coffee, on the other hand, is pretty much exactly as it sounds – coffee brewed the traditional way and then poured over ice.

The difference in preparation isn’t the only difference between the two, though. There are a few other significant differences. The first is in taste. Whereas iced coffee is lighter in taste, it has much more acidity. Cold brew, on the other hand, is fuller bodied and smoother, with less of the bitterness or acidity of traditional coffee. Because of this, it doesn’t necessarily require any sort of sweetener or milk/cream to soften the taste.

The second is in appearance. Cold brew often appears darker, given that it is more concentrated than iced coffee.

The third is strength. Because it steeps longer, cold brew requires more coffee grounds to make. That higher ratio of grounds to water leads to higher caffeine content. As a result, cold brew coffee typically packs more of a caffeine jolt than iced coffee.

Benefits of Cold Brew

Coffee lovers, rejoice! Cold brew coffee isn’t just tasty, though. It also offers a range of impressive health benefits. It’s been shown to reduce the risk of diabetes, improve heart health, improve mood and mental acuity, act as a weight-loss aid, and boost physical performance. It is full of antioxidants, which reduce the risk of the dangerous free radicals that increase your risk for, among other health issues, heart disease, certain cancers, and arthritis.

Lastly, because cold brew has less acidity, it is easier on your stomach than traditional coffee, so for those who suffer from stomach issues like heartburn or indigestion, cold brew might be your new drink of choice. So, go ahead and indulge!
